Rainbow

Digital world.
Come. See the numbers before you see the colours.
(Like scores first/after a football match.)

Number Three

Warm: Pink Cool: Mint Tertiary: Brown

All food colouring stems from light pink and green for rainbow. The crust is an added bonus.

Number Four

Primary: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue

The lamp at the right is a primary rainbow. No secondary colours like orange or violet. Lego.

Number Four

Primary: Red, Yellow, Green Secondary: Purple

Note: to complement with secondary purple, green here eggs on a teal.

Rainbow in 6 colours. For the kids who need not know what's indigo.

Football

July 1, 2010

Football

Bread, in a form of a slab, dough tossed onto the marble's surface and slapped; cake, shaped, settling into a mould and defined; mochi, kneaded into beads and pressed; rice balls, floating atop a sweet syrup. This is the only gravity-defying sweet. Where the condition of a plate is ultimately challenged. And the consumer too, on chocolate custard and powered sugar.

P.S. World Cup where soccer balls were sponsored, like tissues; used and lying around, dirt-cheap like coffee beans or peanuts. Trainers in Olympics used only phenomenally once, spendiferously for the Golden Moment. Treat this golf-ball tenderly, once FIFA's over BreadTalk will have no duties to reintroduce it.

Orh Ku Kueh

7 July, 2010

The Singapore Food Festival permeates localised venues as well as right into our very doorsteps! (Doorsteps=the basement of heartland malls scattered as contingents all over the island).

Ang Ku Kueh (Kueh 4 for SGD 2.00)

Here at Rainbow Lapis, one could almost see the checked ginghams and strings amongst the jars of homemade kaya, homemade curry, and dainty pastries left in the stand. Entire marmalade pantry Singapore-style! Only that they don't happen to stack English atop dialects like the ang ku kueh (tortoise shell), or its variant the black ang ku kueh.

P.S. Take a whiff at the oils and you will know its the orh(sweet), take a glance(ice-rock hard) and you will know its bean paste, not chai por.

Black Ku Kueh

6 July, 2010

At the Peranakan Fiesta 2010, kuehs come in every biodata: three-layered kueh lapis instead of the lucky no.9, violet coloured kueh from gula melaka, and peng kuehs in the know of fashion-hit or miss: red; and black.

Ang Ku Kueh (SGD 0.80)

Discerning as I am; these peng kuehs have switched their IDs. Ang Ku Kuehs? Giants, measuring 7cm in width.

Narrowly-eaten* as I am; peng kuehs are cast in cherry blossoms as opposed to this in turtleback detail (ang ku kueh).

It is some legendary herb! The genial grannies would say on the skin of the orh ku kueh. I prefer it black though; ang kam ooi che lam lam-ma-na chien lam they are all sweet. It is more appropriate to give this savoury an English referral.

Are there any saltish foods that are not distinctively black? How about grey/black foods that wring of another taste on the tongue's taste map?
From family hand-me-down business and into the hotels and back to the masses; the food festival, this ku kueh has met standards for both taste and texture. Tried and tested!

*As opposed to widely-eaten, or widely read.

Aurora

Crown Wheel: Correspondence to purple or white aura.
Brow Wheel: Correspondence to indigo aura.
Throat Wheel: Correspondence to blue aura.
Heart Wheel: Correspondence to green aura.
Solar Plexus Wheel: Correspondence to yellow aura.
Spleen Wheel: Correspondence to orange aura.
Base Wheel: Correspondence to red aura.

The Aura Reading (SGD 5.00)

Solar Plexus correspondent to yellow aura are the tell-tale signs when your skin gives off a yellowish tinge- environment, fatigue; metabolism rates. Base correspondent to red aura are the radiating elements of the tips of your lips, cheeks and fingers. Heart correspondent to green aura is a love for ecology?

P.S. To get the rest of the story, SGD 5.00 will do for an exchange of rainbow.

Black Crystal Bao

July 6, 2010

Parkway Parade might not be 'in' as orchard, yet it remains 'hip' in its own way. How can this be? Its facade is demode without passé.

Here at Chaozhou Inn; it made up for the trips having left home for china, and the trips not returning china, Chaozhou. I put myself in the shoes of Gretel today.

Crystal Buns (Savoury) Chao Zhou Style (3pcs) (SGD 3.30)

With these stone-washed pebbles leading me home. The grass is greener on my side, I did not know that black dim sum would hail from the hole of my childhood! The semitransparent skins gave an indeterminate- black to the fillings, be it rose, gray, beige or green inside! The twist and turn-side of life. To all pastries with treated skins.

Right: Steamed Chaozhou Dumpling (3 pcs) (SGD 2.90)

I tried the 'dumplings' first. More precisely fun guo; white peng kueh or stuffed chwee kueh. Black exterior, it was cultural confusion inside! Cooked bolognese meat sauce with tofu, it had a sour rancidity of the curds and the crunchiness of peanuts! My taste buds were tickled pink from the medley of flavours.

This is the underside of the near perfect-sphere crystal 'bun'. Pleated, like xiao long bao(bun)! Plant starch and glutt'e'nized flour; just admit it-we all adore short-grained rice{to long-grained rice just like white refined rice to brown rice}! The skins gave me plenty to work on, like mochi. And the fillings were chock-full of garlic/chinese chives- riding-high if you adore chinese chives! And springiness from the segmented shrimps.

P.S. So generous were the chinese chives that it overrides filling/stuffing; a side-dish upon a 'bun'. Cross-sections of dumplings are no longer semisoft foods! Today, I am not a critic; but a sponge, cordial to any flavour being absorbed in my pores. Is this how our teochew tastes like? Teochew companion: somewhat no, and somewhat yes.

N.I.U

No(longer) In Use:

Panna Cotta Agar Agar (SGD 9.00)

Barracks(Singaporean side the malay's colourful agar agar) Cafe(European grounding the italian's creamy panna cotta).
Imagine a gelatin dessert layered with red agar agar, cream panna cotta, army-green agar agar, cream panna cotta, turquoise agar agar, cream panna cotta, yellow agar agar, cream panna cotta.
The only agar agar I will eat/see.

Crystal Buns (Sweet) Chao Zhou Style (3pcs) (SGD 3.30)
Untreated skins; it's crystal-clear, revealing the black red bean paste inside. Jelly-legs, it is like eating frog's eggs; just that it is a glob of red bean paste at your face.

P.S. Would June '10 please come back?
P.P.S. New! on the menu is worse off than seeing foods being struck off the list of foods. They might be unavailable(temporarily); and the restaurant's into!revamps regularly.
