Orange Chocolate

Sunny

Where bars used to be brown, this one's orange. Writhe not, just think of Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place award medals for the all-time food flavouring, impinging anything from dessert, sweets to beverages. Chocolate and vanilla mere beans, whilst strawberry? It is a fruit. Hence it is a one-step late for mango flavour, similar 'vanilla essence' of fruity origins, if not we'd not be making mountains out of molehills out of orange-coloured chocolate, as with cosmopolitan ice-cream Neapolitan white, brown and pink, and pink candies everywhere.

Meiji Rich Mango Chocolate (SGD 3.50)

The assassinator Mango Pudding, something dear as kids whilst in an awkward-sounding oriental restaurant, reading the hot and cold dessert names. Rich Matcha, like Dark Chocolate; so Rich Mango's like mango pudding! Condensed, it goes all over the mango that chocolate is forgotten, with the sunset yellow not doing any justice either, so one gathers this is probably mango with white chocolate, mango with custard ~~chocolate~~; or more closely, mango pudding!

P.S. Like strawberry, however, this mango flavour has been carefully developed by Meiji {to become highly differentiated so that mangoes no longer taste like they used to}, but still accurately imparted to be recognised as mango!

Green Bread

Boon Lay Bus Interchange, East West Line- there are too many of them; nuzzling on breads and rolls for a pick-me-up to-get-by 'feed', far from the old-fashioned oats porridge or breakfast of the yesteryears.

Blueberry Cream Roll (SGD 1.30)

Hence the 7-eleven has created 7 Eleven Quick Bites for the busy-collared workers, artfully at Paradiz Center for its worker traffic. Take-and-go, peel-and-eat, in gorgeous reed green lines, white-coloured lines, and paisley hues residing in a metal basket for an assortment of familiar flavours.

Breakable, soft, with cream filling and flavoured bread and it aids as a reassuring meal, breakfast for the lone worker/student allaying hunger. When one is short of butterknife, pantry or a good spread at hand. Yet one hopes that through this hushed meal, one might see through this florid bread one day to historic bread; traditional bakeries with coloured Asian egg breads evoking breadman or freshly baked.

P.S. Also were pandan cream, blueberry cream, red bean, and kaya, having sustained many generations of Singaporeans as their first meal of the day.

Rainbow Pebbles

Rainbow food is interminable. You cannot douse it with Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles, or Cinna-Crunch Pebbles. Here is the comeback in chalklike crayon, 'without equal'; decorative confectionery upon a naked cereal body more of ornamental than gustatory.

Cupcake Pebbles (SGD 4.30)

Post Foods. The most assuaging were Banana Nut Crunch, Blueberry Morning, Honey Bunches of Oats and Great Grains. From what I remember, they purport a cup of muffin in every bowl of your cereal. Cupcake Pebbles too; the entire kitchen wafting the perfume of freshly baked cakes with the bursting of the package.

In review, it is cereal grains infused heavily with vanilla essence, condensed with coloured rice sugar. Dunk it in cold milk and you do get a seventh-heaven comparable to the Oreo & Milk Moment(Twist, Lick, Dunk); it is like the last step of getting your batter ready- inflated to become vanilla cake for eating!

Glass shards. Yellow 5(yellow), yellow 5 lake(more stable form of yellow), red 3(pink shade), yellow 6(orange), blue 1 lake(brilliant blue), red 40(allura red), blue 2(indigotine).

P.S. We all know of the cosmetic flavour of milk left from infringing the cereal. Yet still we lap on on this new flavour Human Earth has given us.

Green Dumplings

A lone japanese backpacker musing over baskets of steamed goodies; or the polar Starbucks, business deals clinched over bowls of slurping noodles. This is the Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao; a different imagery from Crystal Jade Kitchen, or Crystal Jade Ginseng Chicken & BBQ.

In bid to be as exciting as its name are the deviant rice noodles, northern chinese cuisine, and soup dishes found in its menu. Five-grain rice, tim sum and double-boiled mien respectively. For the northern chinese cuisine deviation, of course, one also cannot forgo colour deviation, each pregnant with a chinese native filling.

Jade ingot, preserved vegetable; amethyst ingot, mouthwatering chicken/口水鸡; orange ingot, string bean & preserved olive leaf; opaque ingot, kimchi. Unlike Crystal Jade Restaurant or Palaces, it is not a practice to order steamed rice to accompany side dishes here at La Mian Xiao Long Bao.

Dumpling with Stewed Pork & Preserved Vegetable (SGD 5.50)

Other Crystals aside, this is the Jade(ingot). Do believe me that the other shades are as intense as this green. No more spinach as we have our own greens- plum(chinese mustard), preserved vegetable here to suffuse quesadillas green! And real ingredients used- you could taste the lushness of plum/chinese mustard leaves through the green skin!

It is not a whole-green food. Instead of preserved vegetables, it is rose-gold- stewed pork inside. Which makes you think of designer jewelry- foods cast in such an odd colour combination. This time, no more of my customary practice, chinese dumplings to be hemmed with raw ginger strips! This is because the stewed pork is so aery and fragrant that no raw tubers is needed to be consumed for the motility of the gastrointestinal tract(unlike XLBs or SLB.)!

illume Toilet

Illumé the doors are all uniform in apple green! So much so that even if there were no green-apple hand wash used in this washroom the apple green would suffice to exorcise freshness out of the place. And irony that this toilet's the only non-air conditioned precinct around the state-of-the-arts shopping mall; a parody knocked-out windows confronting an open road of leaves and trees.

Sweet Black Crystal Bao

Disaster

Into exile, everybody was heading the other direction, only a minority were toiling towards the south- the low-lying Thomson and the even more low-lying Teacher's Estate valley.

Misshapen occurred. 3 buses caught in the rain, together with ambulance, traffic police, civil defence trucks and a black tent. It was not the time to look on but to wait.

On a lighter note, look outside again because a moment in history- bus number 855 and 163 arriving at stops past Ang Mo Kio!

Half a day had gone by, and the rain had cleared almost for life to go on. ROCHOR BEANCURD HOUSE.

Crystal Buns (Sweet) (SGD 2.50 for 5)

The effaced. Less of people acquiring tastes for crystal dumplings sweet, found only as savoury crystal buns in restaurants today. Or chinese steamed buns in opaque skins- only the red bean bun left in this skimpier version.

Skimpy or not, the red bean buns/pau is still one of my likes. So how does it remain conspicuous amongst my resume of buns/paus? The paste was not overtly sweet, nor ghastly leveling of modified starch, gluten or glue like I'd worst hope; it hid the caustic side of the beans while disclosing a fresh red bean! And on the scanty, who ruled that red bean paste is to be eaten with doughy skin? Red bean paste with crystal rice skin encased the filling more tautly; you could fully taste the bean paste.

P.S. A blue tent meant for the wounded; black the deceased.

Green Rojak

"I seriously don't know how to order this." Interlude on the Indian rojak, scampering behind the massive menu; confronting a mountain of extraterrestrial yong tao foo. Rojak, R J K a trio of disaccordant consonants yet enunciated so smoothly, so deftly off the tongue that we can see this food's penetration into society- even to those who seldom eat it/foreigners.

Indian Rojak (SGD 0.80 per piece)

Indian, or Mamak rojak. Green rojak here is tepong kelapa, coconut flour balls; carbohydrate mains for the rojak. Pictured here in white is tepong kosong, plain or 'empty' flour balls. There were also onion and carrot cubes inside the green rojak, artfully gilded with curry leaves! Think of baked chips- healthier than the regular and you can imagine the approach these tepongs were dealt with in oil.

And those orange? They are tepong kentang, potato flour balls! What I like about Indian is herbs and lemons used to cure food; no five spice powder or salt and pepper to make them preserved, overdue food. Hence the tepong and sausage-esque roll were all scrumptious- high quality fry I call them!

P.S. From not knowing ~~what is~~ defines taupok/youtiao, let alone what is Indian, Mamak or fruit rojak; the green-lean has supplied all the must-haves you will need on a hawker's table! Pink, red, orange, yellow, green, brown and white tepongs- I will come and get you another day!

Black Charcoal Tart

My way Crystal Jade My Bread creates more island on this earth bordering Hong Kong and Europe! Besides Hong Kong egg tarts there is also the egg-white tart, yuan yang candescent white curds in golden pastry. Hawaii bun and bolo bun; one has whole pineapple rings on top whilst the other is the popular Cantonese pastry, criss-cross sugary crust simulating the epicarp of a pineapple. Whole-grain toast there is also the super whole-grain toast(200% wholemeal? I suppose) and sweet buns there are coffee and mexican coffee buns.

My Way Crystal Jade My Bread churns out recipes as they like, new breads seen at different outlets. So here at Toa Payoh, one gets a trick-or-treat with these devious-looking black pastries at the door!

Mini Caramel Charcoal Tart with Banana (SGD 0.80)

It is black. Not oreo, or flourless dark chocolate cakes. Not black on the inside, like black sesame filling. Elemental carbon; charcoal singeing the crusts burnt and black. Aside the crispy sugary exterior; caramelized like a bolo bun, the crust inside tasted like clay! Cakey and soddy, you feel like your tongue's tastebuds are thoroughly oxidised, dehydrated and flirted and teased by the purging Carbon!

A beautiful crust like fertile volcanic soil. And what's the interior? (The heart cannot take a second blow). Well its not the oxidised banana, or a gob of chewed-up toffee:: its exquisite coffee! So robust, this is probably mexican coffee.

P.S. Clobbering as it is, carbon/charcoal is extremely addictive! Like cocoa or coffee, the higher the purity/dangerous level the crackier you and your tongue gets!

Savory Ice Cream

24 and counting- Swensen's newest ice cream flavours are not found in its menu, but flagged on the action painting advert. Get nosy on those in green. Take a step back and you will see the other 'invisible' white flavours, finally getting the whole picture- Savory Ice Cream.

There are some foods made just for me to eat. Who cares about green when it is salty— and veggie? One, or 2 % in the stratum; just uncommon, not weird.

Asparagus (SGD 3.90)

Stalks. For Asparagus. What a sound design.

Chaffs. On a mahogany background. Now I am tantalized on Sour Cream & Chives.

Novelty aside so how did it taste like? It is green. And for the asparagus one digs in into rich milk powder, together with mineral savouriness of something which is canned. Something like your chunky vegetable soup.

Sour Cream & Chives(SGD 3.90)

The Sour Cream & Chives is mildly sweet, like the buttercream you find on your potato chips. There is also a fragrance from chives or onions. Now we know why Dae Jang Geum(Da Chang Jin/Chang Jin) encourages people to add salt and sugar together for the perfect spice blend!

P.S. See the green chives peeking out from the ice cream! It is no longer chocolate chips. Be widely read. A sweet main course and a savoury dessert is the way to go today. Barracks Cafe, Food For Thought, Bongout.

Turtum

Life is complex. You cannot say the petrol kiosk is yellow; or the Mcdonalds burger's brown. (This is because there are still red, yellows and green inside.) A turtle too; with red, yellow and green underbelly if you notice.

However, to iron things out a little, we make life simpler by saying a turtle's green.

P.S. I, here will really stop at green once I film a frog.

Jade Blue Purple

No. Not campus life(college orientation or university); heartlands(devoted way our government has designated Jurong Point for us), the '00-'10s urban-restructural plans, defining the next few years of our pre-adult lives, but Mandai- Zoo, Bird Park. Strange how the same region in Singapore can evoke two different eras (of our life) when situated side by side.

Chattering Lory

Eggs. The largest single cell found on Earth. When you see them caged; and how distant you were with the 'wonders of science', or your childhood, vacation or primary school. Look, it has grey eyerings and orange-red irises.

Scarlet Ibis

"Mum, a flamingo". When you see any tall pink bird. Not quite, when 'flamingoes' can come in orange too. Flaming. After so many sights of beige-skin humans, rufus-coloured humans or at most a black crow appearing at the bottom of your house.

Sun Conure

Highly prized for its golden yellow plumage, the Sun Conure is also known as the jewel of Amazon, as with the Golden Conure the sun of Amazon. Jewel; because you can tell from the refraction of light with facets of greens, rich yellows and blue found in its underwing-coverts.

Red-throated Parrot Finch

Never a bird so tiny, colours speaking louder than words itself. No bigger than my clenched fist; tail-span and all, I could stare at it for the whole day.

Collared Kingfisher

When I was younger, I would only trade for a manta ray, or a blue jay with my existing beanie baby collection. The collared kingfisher; another blue animal, was the other top choice. It is my gift to spot blue wild in reservoirs or housing estate, and they have to be the 'collared' monotype.

Rose-breasted Cockatoo

While its rose, it has grey tailfeathers. God made it this way, so artificial that it looked like some kind of plushie; and not a bird.

Nankeen Night Heron

No blood-ties with China, Nanjing; it stands beside a pool of mechanized waves. One helps to not notice that it is despondent-looking without wings.

Emu

Heralded the broomsticks, you will only jump-up when they move. While its name's origin remains unknown; you can be sure it is no human prank when you hear E-moo E-moo, at a low frequency- its the theropod dinosaurs the calling you.

Blue-eyed Cockatoo

Ang moh. Ocular condition where we want to have blue eye colour(!), cat's-eye jewel, when it is actually a successful project from the breeding programme. The flying 'orchids'.

Red-tailed Black Cockatoo

They are black alright. This is the live black that I log in!

Swansong

Black is grace. From apparels to accessories. Only the swans speak of otherwise- in white, with black bills.

Swans in black are somewhat less 'prowessive'. Though sailing around they do create some tumultuation; probably because if white swans were the little girl's pet, then black swans would be the goth lolita's. There is always some kind of nihilism in us, even for an expectation in the park.

P.S. I will stop at black for a black rose. And rainbow a rainbow.
