JB kaki- Malaysia dim sum@ Restoran Kak Kak

Sunny

Once, I had been to 报纸街, coming across a shop with staff holding giant woven pans as if they were more precious than world class kaiseki ryori. It bore a memorable name too, Kak Kak (佳佳), meaning fine^2. 报纸街, have you been warned of pickpockets there?

Dim sum in strange shapes and sizes. Red, long, yellow puffs.

There was no menu, no prices, no names. All you had to do was to gawk and point at the pink, green, or black and that will do. Dine to replace the Fullerton's Jade dim sum buffet I had given up, literally, for Johor Bahru dim sum.

(RM 56.00)

They were meaty, as you can tell. The black was shiitake mushroom lined on top of steamed meat paste, and red crabmeat stuffed with steamed meat paste in seaweed. Like sushi, except those were filled with rice instead. What was cantonese dim sum stuffed with then, I was overwhelmed by Johor Bahru dim sum and unable to think straight.

The green was ingeniously peas incorporated, creamy and savoury, on the dim sum of unmistakeably mixed meats. Bitter gourd was cooked till tender, set with fried nonetheless tasty meat.

P.S. So what have I gained throwing in the towel for Singapore's best, and no frills hawker dim sum? Why do I clamber out of my seat like a baby, for road side hawker? Malaysian dim sum is a cross between dim sum and yong tau foo (stuffed tofu and vegetables with meat). They are fleshy, filling, leaning on the sweet side rather than savoury. Not packed with seafood like their cantonese counterpart.

Eni beani mini mo- itsy mini beanie@ Jurong Point

Sunny

How many ways are there to eat pancake? Mr Bean commands the water slide and splash fashion, where the dip becomes the filling for an unstuffed Mr Bean pancake, and the topping is the beans of the bean bag. Ever since it poured into Vietnamese coffee, and all-time favourite soya porridge with youtiao, it is no exoticism you are going for beanies at Mr Bean.

Mr Beans are running amok at the Jurong Point outlet. Pancakes have been morphed into mini beanies, which are downsized version of the usual Mr Bean pancake. They are fried in the cabinet as Mr Bean's pancakes, and there are 2 flavours to choose from to make them less plain. 1 flavour as dipping sauce, the other, topping.

Mini Beanies (Regular) (8 pcs) (SGD 2.90)

The babies in a regular bento box as pieces of 8. Lookout takeout, a scoop of green tea custard as the dipping sauce side, and a bed of rainbow rice as topping dessert. This is how you'd enjoy a mini beanie.

Poster girl of Mr Bean. They actually pop out alive from the advertisement spread, that means it works. So are the rest of the chili crab, hazelnut chocolate paste, viscous sticky peanut butter, nacho cheese cup, caramel custard pot dipping sauces to talentedly mop your selected yes leftover crumble potato chips, cashew nuts (ice cream bar) crush, oreo or mini roasted buckwheat puffs on healthy cream puffs topping. Just that we haven't tried them out, Mr Bean had sounded it out.

P.S. No wonder they are regulars. There is half of the green tea flavoured custard left after using, enough to spread 2 slices of bread. Mr Bean, why no green tea or green tea custard pancake? Our favourite Mr Bean pancake might be the chili crab, hazelnut chocolate not hazelnut praline or hazelnut royale, peanut butter, nacho cheese pancake. It was difficult to tell whether the Mr Bean's custard brightened up the green tea or vice versa, either way, the custard was delightful and mellow. Of course it is the pellets in the stuffed toy, the toppings that makes it to the cover as Ms/Mr Bean, why the dips had more sweets varieties less was what was illustrated red, pink, orange, yellow, white, green but red, pink, yellow, white, green, blue. That sweetest of all.

Bean('sfan)tastic rainbow mille crepe@ Teddy & Me

Cloudy

Unicorn and hologram material, that's what is inside the glass capsule. You poke your head around and this cafe perceives Mr. Bean and Teddy as its stars and suns' axis, no wonder there is a sense of uncanniness to it.

Mr. Bean seems to have a fondness for mille crepe cakes. (Piling the sheets up, the audacity to recreate into a cake.) An extent it is mildly eccentric. Trio chocolate mille crepe, who says mille crepe can't be gorgeous ombre gradient cake, 3 in 1 mille crepe, a vanilla, chocolate, strawberry mille crepe, new strawberry mille crepe, french chestnut mille crepe, yam & red bean mille crepe, green tea & red beans mille crepe, roasted peanut & blueberry mille crepe. Teddy is out now?

Beantastic Mille Crepe (SGD 8.80)

It tops up anything else you like, Singapore flag, Hari Raya Haji on the English icons- making it the first livin' up to name wanderlust-confronting British-inspired Mr. Bean cafe opened in Singapore.

We'd deduce the cake red, orange, yellow, green, blue, pink and purple replacing indigo and violet. However because this is a mille crepe (millefleurs/mille-feuille, chocolate of a thousand leaves) many crepes, as one enjoys the cake one unearths rolls of colour that happens when to be not the 7The mille crepe cake is dressed the chocolate rainbow cake way, instead of cream cheese rainbow cake, with chocolate sprinkles and berries.

Each lightly toasted crepe layer comes in vanilla flavour and are separated by cream that is not overtly sweet. Tasting more of mille crepe and less of ?rainbow.

P.S. Rainbow do not do 7, but in 14 in a mille crepe- red, bright red cream, orange, yellow cream, yellow, equally yellow cream, green, gaspingly blue-green cream, blue, luxe aqua cream, pink, soft pink cream, purple, same pink cream.

The dean approves- rainbow cake @ Dean & DeLuca

Sunny

It was the salt that kept me going, a year plus ago June 2012, when Dean & Deluca first projected its appendages onto Singapore. The coarse sea salt (white), the roasted garlic sea salt (ochre), the wild porcini seat salt (mushroom brown), the Himalayan Mineral salt (flecked and rose, quartzed?). Bringing back that flood of rainbow, like a train of flashback.

Or was it the coarse sugar? Chiseled metal tins for stockings hanging? This era is loose powder, gel liners. Green sugar, blue sugar, yellow sugar, orange sugar, clear sanding sugar, rainbow sugar, purple sugar, pink sugar, red sugar. What your coffee sugar says about you.

Foods|Gifts|Gourmet- they are interchangeable, welded here. The spirit of eating and giving. From charcuterie to cheeses to wine, and to employ its fresh or organic means to the cafe. But this gourmet retailer is also a backyard for rainbow? Why no radiating forth the gleam; windowsills shortcake and blondies and tart which stole the gem away?

There it was actually, beside the red velvet and chocolate indulgence. Garmented in ethereal, white clouds (literally), thrown into such an identity crisis slightly cumbersome with jagged ridges, it could be the precipitation beside the meteorological phenomena rolling up a Romantic notion for the rainbow. No wonder the interior linings are pocketed. Rainbow met with a storm here? It can be orange, pink, yellow, green, blue, purple on one day, red, yellow, green, blue, orange, purple (cake) in Dean & DeLuca on another!

Lemon Meringue (SGD 7.00)

Less sweet and zesty with rind of citrus, it is solid enough-looking pastry, the crisped browned meringue artful in texture and filled lemon curds well-whipped and stable.

Rainbow Cake Slice (SGD 7.00)

Though many ways for interpretation, bakehalf bake it ganache it birthday it, this is angel's entry by Dean & Deluca, to rainbow cake in Singapore, though Dean & Deluca departs from New York. The white vanilla-flavoured buttercream. However cherubic as it is casted by Dean & Deluca, the rainbow has been pertained to something. Sandwiched into 3, it is read the sweet and cherry ripe red of Froot Loops {red}, the tangy bursts of orange, yellow and green Froot Loops {orange, yellow, and green}, and the jacked up goodbye kisses of grape in the purple of Froot Loops {blue and purple}. Cake sponge fingers which remind you of the fruits!

P.S. Dean & Deluca, why it would interject itself as one of another slice in the rainbow scene. {Rainbow cakes, infantine}. It then felled upon me because it is to sweeten it.

It's an Australia @ The House of Robert Timms

Cloudy

When its not small enough, there's Chinatown, Little Vietnam, Little India, Little Italy. Would we ever have a signature of our own? How about a tiny Australia? The true taste of the wild; not withholding, have a loin of kangaroo, stout braised, braised crocodile casserole, or kangaroo rendang. Catch your whole host of safari animals. The bizarre display. The House of Robert Timms.

Savouries aside, when you are partially swept away by the bivalves and light bites, steak selection, all-day breakfast, and beer and coffee bar, you'd know that there are sweets at The House of Robert Timms. Those shared, interfusing terms- flourless cake, chocolate ganache, lamington, dip cookie, already so heavily accented in characteristic flavour, more in the chilled, where to go from here?

Aussie's clotted and cream and glazed. But not so, there's a smear of colour there- rainbow, yes, in such uncomplicated yellow (?), brown (?), purple (?), red (?), pink (?), green (?). Torrent from the macaroons.

To think the mirage of paradise could be reproduced. The Classic (Macaroons)(rainbow)- in rose and lavender and choc mint and mango. Rainbow would not be stitched, without any one of the four in the quadruple.

Choc Mint (SGD 6.00)

The urbane flavour from the tea leaves macaroons. One of the items that would get on your serving in the end. Be it a conspicuous sight, transplanted on top of counter; but French, painted eggshells, and it be Au Chocolat, or PAUL, having macaroons colossal. The usual seize. No longer a little loot, macarons

The colour of your salads. Telling, the pastry has a cripsy cookie shell, appropriately set, and the ice-white buttercream plenty, grand where the filling is substantial and not leaving sad pockets with you languishing a waste. A frosty floral of mint goes on the white, but a sweet ending, definitely.

P.S. You'd want to try them all (rainbow)- rose and lavender and choc mint and mango, but it's a misfortune. They are too big to swallow for a rainbow

Adventure on f(rui)t- Tic Tac 4 flavours

Sunny

All the time it has been deceiving. Behind the electric blue/brilliant orange screens. The refreshers|whites.

It's still hard to view Tic Tac, as a mosaic. The solid colour, broken up. It gives away, into licensing. Which is the most numerous? The reds.

P.S. So it rains cherry, orange, passion fruit, green apple. {Blessings.}

So what is it that broke it

Rainbow.

P.S. It turns, red, fuchsia, orchid, ochre, lime, lime yellow, turquoise, green, turquoise, purple, violet, lavender.

The Silver plate- *blue*@ Sakae Sushi

Cloudy

Non-stochiastically, there would be an urge for starchy, sticky carbohydrates. Marinated. Flavoured strips and those unbridled moreish cuts that goes with them. Even if it was ambient temperature, tepid.

The salads, mayonnaise, avocado. They seem to represent how sushi is being catered to here, the Out into Asia theory.

Ebi kani maki, lobster salad combo, yasai tempura, edamame, tamago sushi. Rainbow has new addresses.

Blue Paradise Maki (SGD4.29)

January the highlight's seafood. Hence there was kani, seafood treasures, hotate jewels, and a paradise that is blue. Utopia like the Caribbean there would be volcanic craters aqua or coastal cliffs, hence a suitably association with the maki, volcano or shrimp or spider butterfly, and its beverage coasters, sea-sprayed blue.

A stain the maki'd left. Smokin' hot blue, and my brain's frozen. {From the aurora}. A flash fire across the makizushi, it is sweet, like a Blue Curacao. (Calpis' from Japan anyway, fizz's the culprit. Ramune too (lemon).) That could be how blue'd been, to tune drinks. Fish fritter, and not breaded ebi like what is garnished on the red plate, it is batted by the lucid taste of the kani, with the mollifying accompaniment of nori and rice.

P.S. So silver'd be a league below the red (plate, premium). Take on a new rainbow. White ($2.20) plate, blue ($3.00) plate, pink ($3.80) plate, green ($4.50) plate, grey ($5.20) plate, red ($6.00) plate, gold ($6.90) plate (Sushi Tei). To-do resolution list. Ditto, have I not been in a slumber?

P(o)ppy(corn)love- candy covered cornflower seeds

Sunny

Even the popcorn starts to look more festive. Colour 102 food yellow tartrazine,110 sunset yellow, 122 carmoisine red colour, 133 brilliant blue. As mentioned on the package.

Kanga Coloured Popcorn (SGD 4.50)

Bubblegum colours of mentos/vitagen/fruity flavours, they are familiar enough though looking like scrambled eggs, it is grabbing small fleshy fruits, a couple of citrus and a bunch of grapes. The pink is strawberry, orange is orange, yellow is lemon, green is lime, purple is grape.

The strawberry is the sweetest of it all, and the lemon and lime though mellow, are bursting with ascorbic acid like candy drops. The grape has the same crystalline attributes as strawberry, with a drifting mustiness of the fleshy berry.

No preservatives, no junky stuff, heralded by the brand Kanga proud from Australia. In the grocer's this season, toasty and tingly curling your toes where kernels popped are mosaic tones.

P.S. We are the same kind. Every colour a different flavour. Sensitive to their variations. What is your favourite? My favourite would be the orange. Ripe and crusty and not losing that natural sunburst citrus flavour.

Everything sunshine and nice @ Le Chocolat Café

After rain

Photoshoots, the edgy side of Singapore, it's got to be Le Chocolat Cafe {on the media its overdue date after been patronized}. Besides ann siang road or club street for the matter, the place for class trips, trails/trials.

Le Chocolat Cafe at Club Hotel is one of the bakeries which offers a rainbow {slice of} cake in Singapore, in the then trend of a rainbow cake. It wasn't something that existed before devil's food cake.

Rainbow Cake (SGD 7.00)

Red. Orange. Yellow. Green (lime). Blue. Violet. The (grandeur) 6 layers. Under a dark chocolate sauce drench. The penultimath layer must be the 1st {brown (chocolate)}, i guess, for rainbow

Kueh lapis, western carrot cake, kueh lapis (prune pandan butter, baked). One tries to understand (though glad of), the rainbow cake. Painstaking, no wonder it fetches high prices. One gathers a greater more. The rainbow cake (for most of the time) is emulating a red velvet cake, the motivity behind its radiation.

P.S. Razor thin as it seems, the rainbow cake is a butter pound cake, sandwiched between palette knived-cream frosting.

Eclair= a motley crew @ Chihuly Lounge

Sunny

There used to be only caramel. Or vanilla. Then Scotts Square came up with one in pistachio. Now its post-modernism at Chihuly Lounge.

Its called summer. Its called weekend. Its called afternoon tea. That basically sums up the specifications of its buffet here, from June to August 2012. Besides a savoury section (the finger food), there is a ice-cream section, eclair section and (hot) tea buffet.

The items that always look ripe for picking in any patisserie: the eclairs. Interestingly, the eclairs up for grabs at Chihuly Lounge were spotted differently from the ones last month. Which means up to 24 flavours.(?)

Weekend Afternoon Tea buffet (SGD 48.00)

Left: Caramel, cherry, cassis violet, passion fruit & mango, cookies & cream, apple, green tea, gula melaka.

For one('s top 3), it would be 1. 1st- caramel. 2. 8th- gula melaka. 3. 7th- green tea. Another, it would be 1. 2nd- cherry. 2. 3rd- cassis violet. 3. 4th- passion fruit & mango. One's reasons would be because the caramel has this thick, biscotti-like glaze of caramel over the caramel. It bursts into an intense proliferation of caramel besides the top cracking heartily into caramel. The gula melaka despite a white chocolate glaze was subtle, light. Flavourful, succinct. The green tea had edible gold foil. The cream inside was dream green tea. Some marginal notes are the cherry on the 'cherry' is heavily rum-infused. The cherry on the apple is candy-coated. The interior of the cassis violet felt strikingly similar to the depths of St. Dalfour's wild blueberry spread.

The mango. Mellow and sweeter than the cream of the passion fruit & mango, which had lemon-like daubs. Mixed berries, somewhat recreating custard on sponge fingers. It is observed to be arranged in strawberries and raspberries, alternating, upon intent look. Chocolate, 2nd in heir [perhaps,] with silver foil. It is the only eclair that is dark-coloured furbished, for its choux pastry. Chocolate(dark) flavoured, for eclair.

P.S. It is undoubtedly rainbow- if it be a large reservoir of tones available in its repertoire. For eclair. For some reason, one flavour was not tried. Hazelnut.

FFT- Work in progress @ 8Q

Sunny

One of the new things in one's life: . And the forgivable.

Everything is still a work in the making.

There is tri-coloured tomato thyme salad for the first week of August. Also, to celebrate the nation's birthday, rose syrup (not bandung) is raised in the toast of the brotherhood. Iced sirap selasih, here. Settled with basil seeds.

Full Works (SGD 18.00)

Yes. A quarter of red(-coloured) tomato, yellow((!)-coloured) tomato, and green((!)-coloured) tomato. Cleanly cut. How does the green (and yellow) tomato fetch? Less ripe more raw of tomato? Its cool and crunchy, like cucumbers.

P.S. Maybe it differs from order time to time. The egg, milky and silky, are still to die for. So are the chicken sausages, outstanding. If a slice of red, yellow, and green tomato holding hands together, it is indeed a divine sight. As salad side. Just not today.

Xmas in a pancake- Mr. Obanyaki's fruit 'cake'

Night

Taiyakis and obanyakis. Thick, gorgeous like from a traditional 'heritage' stand. Take a look at this one. Now there also comes a new filling, innovated, variegated like the goodness of fitness products. Mixeddryfruits with banana.

{At that one in the center}-- fruit bar? A pot of candy honey? Taiyaki?(Looking at the grilled ones beside). The swirly feeling of what it is or not is like starry starry night, probably what which rises to rainbow, things which could not but actually does exist in reality.

Mixed dry fruits with Banana (SGD 1.80)

The fruit cake, dotted with candied fruits, has always tried falling in the rainbow category. There's red, green, yellow, orange, my dear. But now that it is an obanyaki, we just let it be. Look this obanyaki and say, it is from a stollen or fruit 'cake' or panettone, in individuals (pieces).

P.S. Crispy, hardy like a biscotti on the outside, one tastes the perky, spiceful (of cinnamon and likes) fruit pieces at first hand; like an arabian journey, later moistened by the smashed banana which gathers it as a pancake (obanyaki)-eating. Imagine it also a pancake interspersed with plump raisins.

P(re)ppered to blow away- Tri-colour spice @ KFC

Cloudy

This which was found at 3 60 marketplace, the Pierian Spring of all things which followed, also a reminder of the coloured sugar, which resides at Dean & DeLuca. All of that psychodelic spice that grow out of natural colours like geology stones.

Pink peppercorn, green peppercorn, and black peppercorn. Yes, there are such things in Mother Nature the latter the overflow in usage of what we eat as black pepper. On your chicken.

Tri-pepper Crunch (Meal) (SGD 6.30)

Trepidation with our chicken and fast-food found at the end of the rainbow and how it will look like, tri pepper did not disappoint. A delicate pale pink, green, black-and-yellow pepperheads greeting us, exactly how they might have been if in a gourmet mix. Its thrice the spice. Underneath the crispy, marinated with a layer of spicy oil kind of savouriness, you can bite into the peppercorns, each giving an acrid-biting hotness, but flavourful- because its black pepper(kind), remember. Like peppering your chowder away to a maximum impact.

P.S. These are opaque, yet peppering them on chicken adds it like glitter, {the red at bits pink, red, or orange}, creating the most beautiful chicken yet. Red, green, white, black, on brown/yellow. There are quite a lot of colours. Red, green, blue{dark-the black}, the 3 primary colours. Trust to find them on Kentucky's Favourite Chicken.

Chill out- A Häagen-Dazs' Macaroon High Tea Affair

Windy

May seems like a month for the ladies. Knowing that they have a tooth for the sweet, a love for indulgences, and a flickering and sparrow-sized stomach.

Hence Häagen-Dagz introuduced the High Tea Affair, in tiers and twisted wire, where it actually features its ice-cream. Mini ice-cream balls, petit fours, and ice-cream macaroons. High tea can be primarily ice-cream.

Macaroon Mélange (SGD 18.00)

Strawberry with Chantilly cream, vanilla with Chantilly cream, green tea with almond cream, cookies and cream with almond cream, chocolate with almond cream. Crackle the white-/flavour-infused chocolate to Haagen Dagz ice cream inside. Shelled, to look like a macaroon. Fortunately rich and finely-pressed ice cream to do the backing, and exotic sweet Chantilly cream to link the bridge to a macaroon, which is the edible paste which maketh a macaroon. The vanilla has white-inverted-with cream that is pink, stwawberry flavoured Chantilly cream.

P.S. Pink, dusty yellow, green, polka dotted white, brown. Can Your macaroon get any more colourful than this? Because even if they do, they aren't the cool, the fullest a spectrum the frozen Haagen Dagz ice cream can get. In the Haagen Dagz Macaroon Melts, ice cream macaroons, the other 3 flavours not illustrated are orange (orange), macadamia nut (dusty yellow), and coffee (brown).

Colours of the Venice of the East- Crystal Jade Jiang Nan

Cloudy

So it is real. Finally a plot of land situated strategically at the stomach of the cockerel cut-out mass of map of China, Jiang Nan, also taking Crystal Jade by storm. Crystal Jade Jiang Nan is new at VivoCity.

To stop having illusions about how Jiang Nan will be composed, look out for the dim sum in the menu. If it is not cantonese dim sum; then you have made your way to the correct province of China, you have not gone to Crystal Jade Kitchen! Until the menu's tailoring one also realised that dim sum eating has compartments, it is semi-leavened xiao long bao, sheng jian bao and flour-dropped jiao zi here. Less flowery with frills from cantonese dim sum. Flour seems to sum up the Jiang Nan.

Follow down the Yangtze River in black, red and silver. The details are nice to be inspected as part of the collection of Crystal Jade having regional cuisines.

Steamed Beancurd with Egg Yolk, French Bean, Carrot & Black Fungus Served in Cup (SGD 8.00)

One of the appetisers, or salad. The vegetables are cool and refreshing, and the cold tofu is almost like a savoury pudding or sweet which serves as an appetite stimulator. Eaten on its own for the layers, the yellow is fragrant, and one also detects peanuts and pickled vegetables at the top.

Crystal Jade Multi-coloured Xiao Long Bao (SGD 14.50)

In the opening of Crystal Jade Jiang Nan at VivoCity, a basket of dumplings also include the xiao long bao. This signals a new quarter for Singapore, where exclusivity will not be reserved for Paradise Dynasty, Venice of the East will be new landing for Paradise on earth.

As proposed by the restaurant, white is the Original Xiao Long Bao, orange is the Shrimp Xiao Long Bao, meat prawn filled, red is the Spicy Beef Xiao Long Bao, tender for the interior, yellow is the Cheese Xiao Long Bao, black is the Black Truffle Xiao Long Bao, vermillion is the Spicy Chicken Xiao Long Bao, similar to spicy hot pot, green is the Vegetable & Dried Beancurd Xiao Long Bao,
brown is the Foie Gras Xiao Long Bao.

P.S. And Paradise for this Dynasty, the bejeweled globe in the center, a yellow custard bun. Made of glutinous rice flour and not flour skin, a trademark of desserts of Jiang Nan. Sense of a bun in a chewy sturdy skin, the stuffing a steamed, solidified paste of milk custard, like a non-flowy creamy custard bun of cantonese dim sum. Ending off the indigo-violet in the rainbow.
