Valentines special- Pink PM Tea@Chihuly Lounge

Sunny

This year, someone invited me to stay at Ritz Carlton, an experience with the trademark octagonal windows(, just nice the 15 days of chinese new year weren't over), soaking in the auspicious factor and its lounges. Instead, we went for Pink Afternoon Tea Buffet at Chihuly Lounge. Pink-themed pastries, pink-themed desserts and pink-themed sandwiches with your loved one(s), under the dome-shaped Ritz Carlton lounge.

Pink roses, to replace the daises used in the ongoing spring-themed season buffet. And Moët & Champon Grand Vintage Rosé 2006 poured exclusively for Valentine's Day.

Pink Afternoon Tea Buffet (SGD 58.00)

A mash of oriental and western, Potato Curry Turnover, Salmon Confit, Tofu and Sesame Tofu Dressing, Baked Slice Beef and White Asparagus. It was the first time I had white asparagus and the beef was more tender than it appeared.

Steamed Scallop Siew Mai and Salted Egg, the prized collection on top was salted egg, Bake Spicy Eringi Mushroom and Oriental Pesto Sauce. Chicken puff served in a glass pastry with aburi cheese, jam, cress. Slow Cooked Egg, Truffle Jus and Chive in a ceramic bowl. Egg as cold and bewildering as the truffle jus.

Suddenly the staff started wheeling a trolley of cakes, which looked sold at Colony, opposite, too. I caught a few of them- Lychee Tart, Lychee Mousse, Rose Pain de Gene (alcohol) and Elderflower Jelly, Red Velvet, Cream Cheese and Berries Compote, and cheesecake.

Such service of pushing a cake counter was unexpected for the price, and on Valentine's Day.

Pink-themed Goose Liver Parfait, Port Wine Cherry and Cress was barely touched by me, I can only say tastes change, and Baked Honey Glazed Stuff Chicken. Finger sandwiches were Graviax Salmon, Lettuce Salad and Almond Ring, Egg Salad, Miso Mayonnaise and Seaweed Roll, Beef Pastrami, Celery Salad and Mini Croissant.

Box of chocolates and Ritz Carlton's rose for every diner on the table, Happy Valentine's Day.

Gold foil and pomegranate shortcake that focused on lightness and natural sweetness.

Sakura toast with honey, and vanilla ice cream poured over the berries compote, a bold and tangy customised dessert.

Hediard jams, strawberry, and orange to go with clotted cream and plain scone.

Heart-shaped balloons, and not red lanterns filled up the lounge for an eerie, sexy atmosphere. Later, did I found out that the Pink Afternoon Tea Buffet modelled after Chihuly Lounge's tea-themed spring afternoon tea buffet, only with the tea flavoured desserts swapped for a three-tiered dessert stand. At least I got my two stalks of roses, two Valentine's Day balloons, a box of Ritz Carlton's chocolates home.

P.S. Checking into Ritz Carlton later? The complimentary chocolates dark chocolate, Brandy white, and champagne lavender chocolates would be good to rev up the spirit.

Golden fortune- yellow vanilla cone from McDonald

Cotton Candy Flavour Burst (SGD 1.00)

Mango and lime- Brasilia Green Cone from McDonald

Sunny

Last season's on the palette colour was pink. Now it is applied felt tip pen green.

Mango Flavour Burst (SGD 1.00)

Its not about the burst, really. Ok introducing new flying droplets after so many past break aparts from fruit to tropical orange to kopi to butterscotch. Cool but yet to be weathered with vanilla and biscuits {because of the the banana kick} the sweet and rich mango. It was vaguely resemblant of one concoction, evaporated milk and fresh mangoes maybe, or the McDonald's Mango Peach Sundae but more to a mellow peachy tone in cone.

P.S. After cone cartridges stored by the side, like firearms stowed in your strap which the Macs employee pull them out in pink, you thought there'd be two rows but there's no even inquiry into you just wafer, this time round its another tower in green, no plain/default/colourless/wafer/brown no matter high and low you look around the dessert kiosk. Complimentary the Basilica cone because in the fever. [One wanted to choose the Vanilla Cone,] actually.

(Im) beans for you- edamame @ Sushi Tei

Night

The back, or bottom half of it would always be changing. What it is notable for, for Sushi Tei.

The 2nd order, or menu, it transforms into the shoes of its diners, what they would desire for; illusionary, apart from the main menu. For the summer months, it is the treats you can get from the sun-ripe and kissed produces; that are fully immersed in the light of life.

Lavender (fields)?, flowers (sakuraebi), skipjack tuna, edamame, the deal of the season. The Early Summer  involves selection from catch of the season, certain don, croquette and tempura.

Edamame Ice Cream (SGD 3.60)

What one had not taken away from the Fusion Fiesta promotion, the ice cool sizzling hot small pot of extra factor, wasabi. The visiting point to Singapore. However it all settles, with edamame.

The muted, toned down colours of Japan. Cream, grassy green, grey, ochre, beige, maroon, apricot. A reflection of the Japanese flavours, how less rogue it is; in shio (salt), black sesame, yuzu, strawberry, strawberry mille-feuille, nama chocolate.

Sweet Pear Ice Cream (SGD 3.60)

Where there is sweet white peach, there is sweet pear, in Japan. Crisp, thin, more of sorbet, it is aromatic, with a quality of wine. If you had pear tea it is the same fullness in sugariness.

The edamame ice cream, a whipped, eggy blend of sweet and savoury. There are pieces of green soy beans within. Lightly studded with the green heads, only bronzed caramel brittles (if found in ice cream) come close, chewy and buttery. There's nothing much ice cream like this (savoury).

P.S. The ultimate snacking company, one had not known or should have guessed that edamame had the substantiality to be churned in ice cream. Where there is red bean, yellow bean (soybean), peas, now edamame (green bean).

I say Blue- ChaseTheBluesAway @ McDonald's

Night

Fudge (hot), strawberry, me?

Blueberry Sundae (SGD 1.50)

Poetic as ever blueberries violets are blue, the lips are stained with a purple. Unlike run-of-the-mill sauces/syrup, the blueberry was livening with fresh touches, making it somehow distinct from the other berry sundae. Sweet, yes, like maple, whole blueberries like gems reminiscent of Post Selects Blueberry Morning cereal crystals.

P.S. Purple garb day. Grab it with a (hot) taro pie. Oozing with that ambivalent grey. What a strange season for McDonald's- honey lemon, taro pie, blueberry sundae.

Pimp affair- H-pumpkin ice@ Winter Hokkaido Fair

Night

Mangoorange, orange. Its time we get some pumpin' with the beta kerotene daemon. Only beautiful coat and it'd be here.

Our favourite resort, the any of the 4 seasons of Hokkaido (Fair). This winter, Hokkaido brings cheese cake fromage with (!)strawberry, belgian chocolate pudding, cheese pudding with strawberry, squid with roe and milk and pumpkin ice cream to the tropics. A mix of the thermal feeling from Thanksgiving, All Hallow's Eve and polar nights from Hokkaido.

The canary yellow's too bright to be true. (Orange, perhaps?). But you could assume what you see is what you get, because its from the organic. From Hokkaido. And how white it can be, because it is from the raw with the enzymes, from Hokkaido. Ice cream and it can be barely essentials, the milk (flavour).

Pumpkin Ice Cream (SGD 5.00) (Cup/cone)

A vacuum sealed, velvety dehydrated chip of kabocha slab for the ice cream. Naturally savoury and with a zing, it moistens into a feed in the mouth. The cone which holds the ice cream is the steadfast, big knobbly kind as you are aware of, uniform for Hokkaido or the Hokkaido Fair, chamfered like a grand piano denoting how gourmet the cream'd be too, with a faint rice taste, made of mochi similar to the ice cream waffle, or monaka. So was cosmic yellow all sunbeams and rainbow? The ice cream was very rich almost to a raw but it was not bold in flavour or juicy, mild and fibrous so it not cloying.

P.S. Kabocha. And I crinkle away in guilt. The unpolished green coat of pumpkins here. (That's why the pumpkins you greet for trick or treat are orange, and carved, by default?). The Asian variety, or japanese pumpkin as it is coined which sets it apart. All the while I had treated green skins, whole, only with the squashes, winter melon. And why it'd be fetch played furthestyellow, and not orange.

Reaching Cloud 9 ice-cream @ Cedele

Sunny

Green tea and red bean. They seem to be abounding everywhere, long after the rise of the japanese cuisine. Haato, hokkaido ice-cream, non-hokkaido ice-cream- there have been many places where green tea has stayed a place in the heart of ice-cream parlours. But because its
C e d e l e.

The counters are clean and promising like its foods; made fresh, with time, and with natural ingredients. For the first time joining the riot of colours is the green tea and red bean flavour ice-cream. It has a flavour of chendol, with metallic tones, that is how the "tea" functions, for the slightly sweet pleasing green tea. Let it set a little, scoop it up, it thickens and becomes stretchable, trademark of compressed dairy creamy, where there is no room for air, let alone ice.

Green Tea & Red Bean (Single Scoop) (SGD 3.80)

It has the feel-good factor of frozen yoghurt but indubitably the richness of ice-cream. One thing to note is that the ice-cream at Cedele is called Cloud 9 ice-cream. Eggless. Trans fat-free. Vegetarian. What which is proclaimed at every outlet of Cedele. The Cloud 9 ice-cream-labelled tubs, which you can bring home.

P.S. When one thinks of its eggless, one thinks of its bread, too, eggless, sugarless, fat-free. One sorts of gets under the skin of Cloud 9, the ice-cream under Cedele. Black sesame, pink beet, pandan, pistachio, strawberry. The place which has reached the many rungs of the ladder of time. But, looks like one can never finish understanding green tea.(?)

New scoops @ Swensen's- salad greens

Night

The Swensen's at ION Orchard has been a place of memories.

The Swensen's 23 ice cream flavours until the number 23 has been immortalized into some kind of commandment. Peanut buttercup, autonomously singled out to be eaten in the original, or to be savoured as one of the accomplice of the accomplishment of others, if possibly found, within the sundae. There seems to be much more here, until one is befuddled the 23 had been disparate memory or not.

A long tradition from San Franscisco, Swensen's has continuously revamped its menu once every few months. What's new, at Swensen's? Pirate's Kid's Meal in a cut-out boat, baked spaghetti (not pasta), new ciabatta, a The Rock, and new salad to assume the old and outworn. Targeting healthier choices and whatever eating practice that is new.

Chicken Salad with Lime Sherbet (SGD 11.70)

Dig in into the bowl of less baggage. Subtle as the peridot green in the foliage of garden of greens, it is a transcending a tough, regal message - it is hard to contain such queerness in the fronds. Cold as plant dishes salads can be, but never were they frozen, enjoyed in the thawing. The scoop of ice cream sherbet is the ultimate salad dressing for aberrant splaying of mocktail-like sauces, that one cannot uneat, keeping the poultry tender and fresh, the leaves crisp and crystal-like.

P.S. As the green sauce continues to shed the entire vessel, the ice cream sherbet intercalates with the chicken, until it becomes chicken(?)-chip ice cream. Holding the salad by an ice cream scoop (of dressing, usually egg, potatoes and mayonnaise), which ironically became an ice cream scoop itself.

Chill out- A Häagen-Dazs' Macaroon High Tea Affair

Windy

May seems like a month for the ladies. Knowing that they have a tooth for the sweet, a love for indulgences, and a flickering and sparrow-sized stomach.

Hence Häagen-Dagz introuduced the High Tea Affair, in tiers and twisted wire, where it actually features its ice-cream. Mini ice-cream balls, petit fours, and ice-cream macaroons. High tea can be primarily ice-cream.

Macaroon Mélange (SGD 18.00)

Strawberry with Chantilly cream, vanilla with Chantilly cream, green tea with almond cream, cookies and cream with almond cream, chocolate with almond cream. Crackle the white-/flavour-infused chocolate to Haagen Dagz ice cream inside. Shelled, to look like a macaroon. Fortunately rich and finely-pressed ice cream to do the backing, and exotic sweet Chantilly cream to link the bridge to a macaroon, which is the edible paste which maketh a macaroon. The vanilla has white-inverted-with cream that is pink, stwawberry flavoured Chantilly cream.

P.S. Pink, dusty yellow, green, polka dotted white, brown. Can Your macaroon get any more colourful than this? Because even if they do, they aren't the cool, the fullest a spectrum the frozen Haagen Dagz ice cream can get. In the Haagen Dagz Macaroon Melts, ice cream macaroons, the other 3 flavours not illustrated are orange (orange), macadamia nut (dusty yellow), and coffee (brown).

Orange Day- Prosperity from McDonald's

Night

The preppy shade refreshing among the blue of the winter, washing over the entire billboard. There is going to be a change in decor very soon.

Tropical Orange Flavour Burst (SGD 0.80)

At the edge of the road; Orchard Road, there were caucasians, filipinos, mexicans enjoying the al fresco, naked weather. The rest of the locals must have stayed indoors for the season. It would be a few days before this place gets flooded.

Pineapple pie (SGD 1.30)

A mouthful on the tongue. An invigorating twist to the baked pie, it is comfort food of crispy golden shell with nectarine syrup inside, but the fruit pieces tangy pineapples. Imagine it shining yellow inside.

P.S. Of course there is also the Orange McFizz, Zesty Orange McFlurry, Twister fries.

Winter Hokkaido- Adzuki ice cream from Sushi Tei

Night

Quiet, enchanting atmosphere, Sushi Tei is a place for the relish of sushi, in izakaya-style and comfort with menu according to the months.

Of course, for this season the grilled squid stuffed with flavoured squid rice, and the perennial ikura and chuka kurage and pan-fried salmon tail are also savoured at Sushi Tei. Even the simple silver of crabmeat in chawanmushi and california roll is also outstanding.

Hokkaido Adzuki Ice Cream (SGD 3.40)

Like its picture, it is a soft deft pink. The adzuki ice cream is unconceivable in flavour, more mellow like rum, or chendol. Maybe because Hokkaido's the mix. It is not like any other red bean ice cream.

P.S. After wasabi, yubari melon, apple, shio caramel; so many seasonssoul-searching, finally there is an ice-cream scoop worth fitting in.

Merrim(e)nt mint - Sundae @ Swensen's

Stormy

Naive days without sin and guilt, climbing over Coit Tower and likes, devouring an entire summit in one seating, when one is hardly grown-up and pint-sized- wondering how can the whole tower go into one's stomach. Swensens' left the mark as the place for sundaes (towers); ice-cream dessert since time immemorial.

This year, it is suiting that it comes in a jingle of the 12 Sundaes of Christmas, a spread of 12 specially concocted sundaes for the season.
The epitome of the Swensen's- sundae, in a print-clash with the epitome of winter gingerbread man.

Merri-Mint Macaroon (SGD 10.90)

Two crisp macaroons sandwiching gummy marshmallows inside. It is Pink Mint Frost and Thin Mint ice cream cushioning the sundae. The thin mint ice cream is smooth and icy, accomplished as a Swensen's flavour. Towards the end of the light and tantalising dessert, it gets white and ambiguous down the bowl, slaps of sticky stretchy marshmallow pools. It is inventive, multi-faceted on the tongue whilst good to eat.

Still don't believe me, what's Pink Mint Frost(?). Pink for overthrowing the notion of mint/mint in the image of our hearts. And the taste any deviating from a green mint(?). It is a registered new flavour for Swensen's, up for us to order whether colour plays a role in the perceptional flavour of mint.

Tin Roof Sleigh Ride, Merri-Mint Macaroon, Tinsel Castle, Frosty Knickerbocker, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Twinkle, more to find out about the 12 Sundaes of Christmas and what goes in its content of ingredients.

P.S. Merri-Mint Macaroon. 8. 8 maids a milking, the beatitude upon us.

Sundae on a sunday- Mcdonalds Double Lime with nata de coco

Night

After the storm with the monopoly, Mcdonalds also (finally) came up with a new constitution of the sundae- the double. Double chocolate chip in chocolate the main and chocolate the chip, double cheeseburger in double the cheese, double lime= what double?

Double Lime Sundae (SGD 2.20)

It is not the double way of chocolate, or with 2 lime rings; but rather, the double of burgers. Twice the size, hungry, i'm lovin' eat. Looking slime-like like monsters, it is actually the comforting, dear taste of yester-year- lime popsicle with vanilla ice-cream inside, remember?

The volume of it is actually the small cup of orange juice, or coke. Upon first taste, its fragrance's detergent, then after-taste, it is the mellow flavour of lime popsicles and vanilla.

P.S. After dissemination of the green apple pie in package, the Mcdonald's Sweet 'N Sour Sauce is also green(lime)! High fructose corn syrup, water, apricot puree concentration, peach puree concentration, distilled vinegar, soy sauce, sodium benzoate; food reading has never been so exciting.
